TETRA MASTER

This time around the card game, though similar to Triple Triad from FFVIII, is slightly different. Noticeably, it was called Quad Mist in Japan, a sort of advanced Triple Triad. Triple Triad was played on a 3x3 grid, while Tetra Master is played on a 4x4 grid. As in Triple Triad, a challenge is made by pressing next to someone. Both players select 5 cards from their decks, and place them strategically on the grid. Eagle-eyed readers will have noticed that there are 16 squares on the grid, and 10 cards in play. To compensate, a number of squares are filled in already. As before, placing a card of a higher power (using an arrow instead of number system) flips your opponent's card to your colour. The person with the highest number of cards their colour when all cards are used wins, and takes one card from the opponent, UNLESS that person wins by perfect(ie, all cards are their colour) in which case they win ALL the cards!!!

Card Battles, Numbers on Cards, and Combos.
The card's numbers are a mystery, although the shop in Dali does tell us that the first number is the card's attack power, and the third and fourth are it's defence power. The letter in second place is the card's attack type:

F=physical attack M=magic attack X=physical & magical attack (strong).

Card battles occour when two arrows are placed pointing to each other. A random number is chosen from each card, the numbers on the cards being the highest each one can have, and these numbers are subtracted from each other. The card with the lower number is flipped.
When a card is flipped, it will also flip any cards its arrows point to, so long as it doesn't have an arrow protecting it. This can be used strategically to win the battle at the end. I even won a battle with only two cards my colour by using a combo, and I scored a perfect game.

Building Your Collection
Ah, yes...the trusty collecting quest. Well, there's 100 cards, roughly 10 in each category....monsters, more monsters, eidolons, weapons, etc. The best way to increase your collection is to goto the card stadium in Treno, where you can battle specific people to win cards. Later on in the game, that is, when you'll be able to choose who to battle. Looking for a Shiva card? Battle the eidolon card player. Want a Mythril sword? Beat the weapon master.
Of course, there are some really RARE cards that you'll only get once, often as Chocograph treasures. And, of course there's the secret card phantoms in Memoria.GHOSTS:In memoria (disc 4) you'll notice that there are exclamation marks that Zidane shakes his head at. If you challenge these phantoms to a game, you can get some rare cards like Ribbons, Flares, etc.

The following is a list of cards only as they appear in the JAP game:
