How to use Eidolons
Most people choose to place only one healer in their party, either Dagger or Eiko. Both of them can summon Eidolons, as above. VERY IMPORTANT: Eiko can only summon 4 Eidolons, fewer than Dagger, but Eiko's Eidolons can be far more effective in certain circumstances. Carbuncle can be used, depending on what gemstone is equipped in the add- on slot, for powerful defensive and haste purposes on all allies. Possibly most useful is the Pheonix Eidolon, which does Fire Damage and revives all allies from KO. Dagger's Eidolons are all offensive, so finding her items to learn healing spells is important.

Most effective Eidolons
The first Eidolon you can use is Ramuh, the lightning Eidolon. However, these first Eidolons-Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit and Fenrir, some become redundant. In fact, the only offensive eidolons worth summoning in the later stages are Bahamut, Arc(if you can get him), Madeen, and most of all, Atomos. Atomos was an Eidolon I rarely used, until battling a Behemoth one-on-one using Dagger. I used Atomos' G-force 199 attack, and was pleasantly surprised to find it took well over 9000 HP off the Level 71 monster (with her being around level 48). Here's how you do it: Get Atomos by equipping an Amethyst stone in the add-on slot, and learn it. Then equip the Pumice piece and equip the support ability "Boost". To further the effects of the attack, have a high number of Amethysts in you inventory. This will take away a further % of the enemy's HP. This attack does have an upper limit of 9999 damage, though.
