Zidane Tribal
You Don't Need A Reason To Help People.
Zidane, the main character, is an enthusiastic young guy with, erm....a tail, actually. But,of course, that's entirely acceptable in a world with monsters, mages with no faces, summoners, and giant chefs. He's a member of Tantalus, the great band of theives, and his skills reflect this. He's rather strong and has a good selection of semi-magical attacks, mostly during trance state. His attitude to life is generally stress-free; though he does end up becoming depressed when his world's turned upside-down by a certain young lady. This attitude leaks Charisma, and even Rusty ends up trying to accomodate him. His aura also interests and changes some people, such as the Flaming Aramant. All this makes him a born leader, inspiring his comrades, especially Vivi, to fight against the odds. And of course, add on the fact that he believes "You don't need a reason to help people" and you'll see why he's the main character. He also fancies himself as a lady's man, and throughout the game has trouble with a certain girl and her resistance to his passes...........

Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII AKA "Dagger"
Someday I Will Be Queen, But I Will Always Be Myself.
This young princess has been through much turmoil during her 16 years of life. Her past is merely a collection of distorted memories to her, and the only thing she knows to be true is that she is the daughter of Brahne, Queen of Alexandria. However, her mother, who has always been just and fair, has been changing since her 15th birthday, when the white-clad stranger came to visit. Dagger, as you will come to know her, is a good person, and wishes to mbe good and just in all respects. Having spent her whole life inside the walls of a castle, she is uncertain and naive about the world around her. She is a skilled healer and posseses....something inside of her, an ancient power she knows too well, a part of her she is terrified of. In battle, she is originally useful for her healing skills, but later on in the game she too grows incredibly powerful using the power of the Eidolons.

Vivi Orniter
How Do You Prove That You Exist? Maybe We Don't Exist....
Vivi Orniter Vivi, a mere child in life, is incredibly wise for his size. Having no parents nor past he can remember, he was guided solely by his "grandfather" Quan, who has since passed away. Nonetheless, he has always had uncanny magical abilities, capable of much destruction without the slightest tuorage in these arts. In the beginning, he wishes to live his life simply. Deep inside, however, there is a passion to find his roots, his meaning for living. His travels with Zidane begin to unleash this will, but Vivi never guessed that he might find his sole reason for existence is to destroy. Tormented by this, and wishing only to do good, his feelings lead him deeper still into dismay, but his strong will and good nature always lead him through.

Vivi is the best character in FFIX!!!!!! I've dedicated a small page to him, so go there by clicking here.

Adelbert Steiner
Having Sworn Fealty, Must I Spend My Life In Servitude?
Adelbert Steiner, Captain of the Knights of Pluto, protector and guardian of her Highness Princess Garnet. Sounds right impressive, but he's actually a slightly unfit 33(I think) year old man, who wears rather rusty armour. He's devoted his life to the Royal Family of Alexandria, and his journeys with Zidane (who he shares a rather bitter rivalry with) lead him to question right and wrong. Before, he does things so unquestioningly he endangers the princess' life a lot in the game. He cannot bring himself to believe the Queen could do wrong until he is imprisoned and Dagger's life is at stake. He changes dramatically over the course of the game, from idiotically obedient to intelligently aware.

Freya Crescent
To Be Forgotten Is Worse Than Death.
Freya Crescent, Dragon Knight of the Great Kingdom of Burmecia. The philosophy above comes as quite a close match to Squall's attitude in Galbadia Garden in FF8. Freya knows Zidane well from the past, and she has made it her mission in life to seek out her lost love, Sir Fratley. At the time in the game, she has been searching for 3 years. As a game character, she is deep and methodical, yet also a fearsome fighter when needs be. This combination makes her the only character with a true balance between magical and physical abilities. Used well, she can become your strongest character. Early on, her jumping skills will win you plenty of Boss Battles.

Eiko Carol
I don't want to be alone anymore...
Eiko is a young girl who has lived her life in solitude, since the destruction of her village by a mysterious force. The city was Madain Sari, home to the Summoner Tribe, who held the power to summon the sacred beasts called Eidolons to their aid, and Eiko is the sole survivor.
Eiko is a great character to use, not only because she has a huge crush on Zidane, and thinks of herself as competing with Dagger for him, but also because of her battle prowess. She can use powerful White Magic and Eidolons like Dagger, but she has only 4 Eidolons. She makes up for this being able to use extra spells Esuna and Holy, and that her Eidolons can be taught alternate attacks depending on the equipped stone. Eiko is also very mature for her age, and can clearly see that Zidane and Dagger care for each other, but are "thick as bricks" since they only really show their care when they're apart. Eiko is different, in the way that she's honest with her feelings and doesn't lie to herself.
